Party: Paintings by Gianpaolo 2013

Gianpaolo’s work explores the roles of narration and expression and how these overlap and often completely overwhelm each other, both taking turns as valid protagonists.
Within dramatic light and color, story is once liberated and then again underlined. In Gianpaolo’s work, everything becomes fair ground for depiction: flowers,
portraits, memories, fears, and simple daily objects as well as countless references to the old masters. It is as though within the paintings there is the accumulation of daily thoughts, moods, and feelings that both mirror the subjects and act as metaphors for our communal human condition. Many times the paintings become labyrinths without a way of exit;
Other times the paintings offer nothing more
than a gentle reminder that we are alive.
