A killer voice and a modern revival of the classic Aussie pub rock genre mixed with roots, folk, country and blues.
Matt Dent set out, with his music, to embody the basic spirit he felt resided in Australia and it's people.
In his own words: “I wanted to blend past and present music styles and revitalise what it means to me to be Australian. I also wanted to put new life into Aussie music. I feel there is a strong awakening in our culture and around the world which demands a return to our ancestral musical roots and away from the disposable, marketed music for the shallow masses. I like the idea of evolving folk music. It's music for the people about the people and what's happening in their lives, that's what I'm about."
Drawing inspiration from such greats as Paul Kelly, Neil Finn, Aussie Crawl and Hunters and Collectors Matt set to task. He was keenly interested as well in earlier forms of music, having his basic musical roots in Scottish, Irish and Australian folk music.
"I wanted to bring the pub rock and the travelling-folk-songwriter/bard together and create a new type of rootsy genre for the Aussie connoisseur. I loved the basic acoustic sounds as well as the tough, in-your-face pub rock of the 70s and 80s.
